Measles Mumps Rubella – “Fantastic Success” – [Doubling Cube Records]
ophelia necro 10/18/2006 A Library
New York’s Measles Mumps Rubella traces its roots back to the D.C. scene, where the act’s dance-punk rubbed up against the city’s thriving art-rock scene. After releasing a handful of singles, the act relocated to New York in 2004 and ditched its front man. Their 2006 full-length debut “Fantastic Success” is 29 minutes (7 tracks) of dance-punk, with disembodied, post-punk styled vocals, driving drum beat dirges, fuzzed out bass grooves with echoey guitar jams running throughout. Think Devo with indie guitars instead of keyboards and live drumming instead of machine beats.
