Slits, The – “Revenge of The Killer Slits ” – [Saf Records]

Thurston Hunger   10/13/2006   A Library, CD

All too rare that we dig up the graves of heroes and find a
heart still beating, you can catch a whiff of money on this
but the aroma is thicker with the original mud. I think the
key is that Ari-up herself is the at the helm for production.
Rasta-punk-muffin grimestep gets down and dirties up your
Jahcoozi and all the other floozies, grrrlls and us boys too.
Heavy lobotomy-bass on “Slits Tradition” with its hairy aria
sample on top should be played loud in big cars. Let her rip!
“Number One Enemy” is the ’77 sneer salute, just for the hell
of it. Hey, mommy’s a punk rocker. “Kill Them With Love” is
seductive enough at the start, but then a jungle jumps up and
some lickety-split lip Slit spit keeps this fresher than a
New York Dolls depends. Wise with the dubwise…and a damn
pleasant surprise. Here’s an EP from yesterday’s idols that
leaves you wanting more, they shoplifted from themselves.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
