Foom – “Surface Noise and Imperfections” – [No Fidelity Records]
What a relief to learn that this album is warped not because I may have mistreated it, but because Boston musician Chris Lichatz uses old thrift store vinyl as a backdrop for his sound collages. Side A is like the soundtrack to The Haunted House ride in Disneyland, while Side B is more soothing because of the blurry voices layered over a pretty yet surreal loopiness. You just have to listen to understand, but it’s worth it.
