Milky Wimpshake – “Lovers Not Fighters ” – [Youth Club Tape Club]

Thurston Hunger   9/7/2006   12-inch, A Library

Mostly ‘armless tales o’ spineless and/or clueless love. Most
refreshing aspect is a complete lack of posture (actually
that ironically does require a bit o’ spine). Pining without
whining also helps out here, as do the post-Messthetics lo-fi
blare-o-phonics. Some political punditry, pulls its punches
but lands some as well. Definitely not (Tony) Blair-o-phonic
for this UK trio (now a drummerless duo as Grant Jones has
left the ‘shake). Karl Marx sits at the dinner table with a
single mom and Jack Straw is propped up as a strawman. This
never rises to the ire of a Wedding Present say, often left
at the altar by those they love and drum with. Earnest to
a fault, but maybe missing the importance of being Wilde?
I imagine a series of relationships, breaking up after being
disappointed by the voting records of lovers, only to reunite
for sex that’s even more disappointing. “Lovers not Fighters?”
Prolly more into stuffing the ol’ ballot box, not that there’s
anything wrong with that. I’d vote for ’em.
