Sound & Fury – “Pulsacion” – [Ektro Records]
Dedicated to Finnish composer and percussionist Edward Vesala, who started Sound & Fury and wrote the pieces on this CD, this release is considered “avant-garde ensemble jazz.” The music is bold and fills space with horns, flutes, and a killer guitar, so the jazz label is not always apt here. Iro Haarla, Vesal’s wife, arranged the music, and two percussionists are needed to aspire to Vesala’s passion. This is quite interesting and edgy.
