Parhelion – “Pineapple City” – [Self Released]
Cousin Mary 2/12/2014 CD, Jazz
Parhelion is a very young, very local duo – Nathan Ho (16) and Kevin Murray (13) from Mountain View. Joined by percussionist Claude Ferguson, Pineapple City is a listenable 70-minute free improvisation with excellent playing and lots of originality that was recorded in one take. They cite William Parker and Albert Ayler as influences. (A parhelion is a bright spot in the sky formed by refraction of sunlight through ice crystals high in the earth’s atmosphere.) REMARKABLE!!
