RKK13CD [coll] – [Reckankreuz]
35 artists doing the remix thing to tracks originally done by the man known as Hrvatski. They generally seem to use laptop glitchery as a jumping-off point, but they get a wide variety of results: quiet ambience, clicks and cuts, messed-up techno, voices, drum solos, and even some good old-fashioned noise. Some well-respected names pitch in: Jim O’Rourke, Pushbutton Objects, Cex, Kid 606, Chessie, V/vm, and Thurston Moore (whose contribution consists of decorating the Ramones’ original recording of “I Wanna Be Sedated” with some obnoxious buzzing; OK, whatever…). It’s all very experimental but quite listenable. A digital crazy quilt. Each track is around 2 minutes long, apparently by design, and they track through nicely if that’s what you want. A good approach is to put the CD player in continuous mode and let it flow until you’ve gotten the exact dosage you need.
