Electro Group – “Ummo ” – [Omnibus Records]
Max Level 8/22/2006 A Library, CD
Sacramento trio combines the shimmer and melody of 80’s-style shoegaze with more modern grungefuzznoisepop. Crunchy guitar and bass distortion. A few subtle keyboards, mostly buried in the mix. Ethereal vocals sound female, but there aren’t any females in the band and no guests are credited, so must be one of the guys singing falsetto. The band says the lyrics don’t mean much, the singer is just doing stuff that has a nice sound to it. Title track (#6) is an instrumental, hard-charging as are all the tracks here.
