Dipsomaniacs – “Stethoscopic Notion ” – [Camera Obscura]

Max Level   8/20/2006   A Library, CD

Really really good re-creations of music from a time gone by. Dukes of Stratosphear were aiming for this very sound, but Norway’s Dipsomaniacs are the real thing. Perfect little psyche-pop gems, full of sitar and 12-string guitar, fronted by Oyvind Holm’s distinctive vocals. Holm was doing this on his own for a few years until he eventually found some like-minded musicians to help bring his vision to life. If the Eight Miles High era Byrds had made an album with John Lennon around the time he wrote Strawberry Fields Forever, it might have sounded something like this CD. Which is to say good.
