Loose Fur – “S/T ” – [Drag City]
Max Level 8/20/2006 12-inch, A Library
Roving percussionist Glenn Kotche, Jim O’Rourke (too many projects to name), and Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) are Loose Fur (Lucifer?). It’s laid back, electric/acoustic folk/rock/pop, on the hazy side. O’Rourke and Tweedy trade off on vocals, guitars, and bass. Kotche covers the drums, vibes, and percussion. Helpful piano shows up here and there, and the second song has a touch of banjo. Most of the vocal tracks end with a guitar jam. ‘I’m not sure what’s up with the third song, which has pleasant minor-key acoustic guitar by O’Rourke, plus random percussion and what sounds like a deliberately untuned guitar. Overall this seems like a nice side project for these guys.
