Scotland’s Drew Mulholland is MVAL. This music deals with the mysterious psychic energy he believes exists in abandoned buildings, tunnels, and caves; exploring its supposed connections to Victorian history, WWII-era England, and other evocative subjects. Well-respected guests add instrumental and remix work to MVAL’s seething, Moog-driven, often sinister, electronic noisescapes. There’s cello on Track 5, flute on Track 10, and sax on Tracks 8 and 11. Tracks 6 and 9 are pretty much noise; the latter being a relentless and exhausting 14-minute sax/buzz/throb-fest. The music/sounds here are cool but generally creepy.
