Album Review
Figure Study [Dark Entries]
dirty frank 1/14/2014 12-inch, A Library
About – Duo from New York – Nathan Antolik and April Chalpara. Both share the writing and production duties. April provides the vocal.
Album – This is their debut full length album from Dark Entries label. They did have a 7″ release in 2009.
Sound – Costco-size ANALOG SYNTH fill all the songs in this album. Mix in some hip drumming and you have dance numbers fit for a trendy lounge with exotic cocktails. A few numbers do try to get away from the dance-y theme and get dark. April’s voice tries to add that haunting touch to the songs. (Although not as much as they think it does) There is a lyrics sleeve if you are interested in slow-jamming the lyrics on-air. I know I will be. ??The songs definitely have a night-time vibe to it and the album did really grew on me after a few listens. Check it out.
