Melnyk, Lubomyr – “Corollaries” – [Erased Tapes Records]

humana   1/6/2014   12-inch, A Library

The Ukrainian Lubomyr brings his compositions to life on this double-vinyl release with his shimmering piano finesse using the method of continuous music, which he invented. Cy Thoth would call it fugue, but it does not have the headachy connotations that particular word implies. All is loveliness, and continuous, repeating, soothing. Peter Broderick adds his violin to some of the pieces, and Martin Heyne adds guitar, while both take turns with the Juno, a special Roland synthesizer that creates Hoover waveform sound. Lubomyr says the Juno “adds a beautiful dust-cover of sounds and pearly effects that cast a lovely sparkle over the piano music.” A1 has Broderick’s voice and lyrics, while the rest is instrumental. Perfectly delightful and continuously pleasure-inducing.
