Zum Audio Volume 3 [coll] – [Zum]
Max Level 7/8/2006 A Library, CD
This local label has been chugging along reliably for years, never highly visible but always worth exploring. Here is a collection of 23 artists working within a loose framework of what might be called noise/rock/pop. Some tracks are strictly noise, while others are more toward the noisy non-musical end of the rock/pop end of the spectrum. Roughly 3/4 of these artists are unfamiliar to me, and whether those are ongoing projects or one-offs I really couldn’t say. But there are many I would like to hear more from, which, I think, in general, is the raison d’etre of most label comps. So a successful release in that regard. Zum is very much in tune with some of the more offbeat, challenging types of sounds we play on KFJC, and therefore a valuable label for us. Check it out.
