D.on Darox & The Melody Joy Bakers – “Tango” – [Self-released]

humana   10/21/2013   A Library, CD

Accordion, trumpet, and theremin (especially in the last few songs) characterize this release of “dirty gypsy blues,” interspersed by tango rhythm pieces. Oh, and don’t forget the gravely vocals of D.on Darox himself, which have a tinge of Louis Armstrong in them. This music calls to mind New Orleans and big bands like the ones that played for funeral parades in their march behind the casket. There is solemnity, sadness, and joy, as the band name suggests. 7 is a cover of “This Little Light.”
