Boyle – “2013 Disc 3” – [Self-released]

humana   10/17/2013   A Library, CD

John Boyle is a composer and musician from Onalaska, Wisconsin. This release was recorded in 4-track analog, and I’d say the chief characteristic of all the songs is pleasant, ambient drone. At times it sounds like organ music echoing off the walls of a cathedral, and other times (as in 3) there are siren sounds (I actually had to look for police cars as I was driving). Track 6 is a shimmering piece of loveliness. I can’t find a bio on the Internet, but I’d say Boyle is an electronic master who takes his music seriously. Sometimes I wonder how drone artists know how long to make their songs last, and I’m sure there’s a special formula Boyle has worked out to answer this question. His website includes “soundartgallery” for a reason–you feel like you are walking through a museum observing beauty while your ears take in the aural atmosphere. Listen and enjoy this sonic experience.
