Album Review
Kelly, Mamadou – “Adibar” – [Clermont Music]
mickeyslim 10/15/2013 CD, International
Northern Malian music a la the likes of Ali Farka Toure, as part of his band as well as right hand man in Afel Bocoum’s Alkibar Mamadou Kelly releases this album after being forced to flee his hometown of Goundan for Bamako.
Recorded in refuge this summer in Bamako alongside longtime collaborator Alpha Ousmane Sankare (after Kelly left, Sankare had his instruments burned by the fundamentalist factions occupying their hometown) and Brehima Hama Cisse. The album reflects the idea of a country in constant turmoil, but also the never ending need to look for hope. Songs about herdsmen and women, adventures, working hard, poor folks, etc. From the northern Mali delta (aka Mali Delta Blues)
