Deadwood – “8 19” – [Cold Spring Records UK]

Thurston Hunger   10/15/2013   A Library, CD

Swedish inferno sounds. 2005 release from Daniel Jansson. Waves of
crashing static noise, voices caught in the molten sound. More
sounds from your favorite nightmares. A dungeone kind of feel at
times, like on the slow-mo torture flow on “Crushing On.” During
that at one point I thought Jansson moaned “I like limes” but
later he’s summoning Lucifer, so fans of religious music can polish
their pitchforks with glee. The processing of the vocals, not
just cookie monster throat squeeze, but preferrably the electronic
tweaking adds a psycho-robot flair to this. Loops of noise tend
to rise and ebb creating an insistent rhythm, like a madman
slamming his head into the walls of the asylum. Or, on “Bitch On
The …” those simple loops start out like ghost winds. “Wither
Sith” commences with a clock striking the hour over a digital fire
cackling, then e-wolves howl. The vox, delivered emphatically and
through processors, are nearly always lost in the electric storm.
So they just become texture…and this becomes sort of like
watching a horror movie backwards.
