90 Degrees South – “A Distant Memory of Home ” – [Amp Art Recordings]

Thurston Hunger   5/29/2006   A Library, CD

Three little songbergs, adrift in the
seas of blip, swept by currents of drone.
Kev Fox is the ice sculptor…lazy guitar
over soothing staccatto crystal signals.
Metronome hypnotization. Occasional
spoken samples tying to the theme; this
is new music for one old penguin. Check
the liner notes…there’s a companion
full-length called “The Barrier Silence”
based on the fated 1913 Antarctic journey
of Edward Wilson. Perhaps that is more
a harsh blizzard, this is like watching
penguins body surf on ice. Cute, kinda
funny, but not without grace. -Hunger
