Ruins – “Pallaschtom ” – [Sonore]

Thurston Hunger   5/29/2006   A Library, CD

Amazing Maze Rock. Hyperspeed trips, down
one path, back out at breakneck speed,
parallel probes and time signatures
explored. But this is never mathematically
dry, it’s bloody and pumping like some
advanced alien heart…surging on pure
adrenaline. Yoshida is an incredible
drummer, a semi truck that can shift gears
like a sports car. He’s a motor. Sasaki
is a maniac on his tricked-out bass, great
fuzz effects, extra strings fully employed.
But it’s not enough for these guys to be
technical masters of their instruments,
they do this weird singing in tongues, ala
Magma, operatic encrypted. This is their
second release on Sonore, and has the level
of recording to match the level of their
playing. The Medley Malady continues, from
Prog to Heavy Metal to….Classical now!
Still this is purest rock and roll. -Hunger
