Constant Mongrel – “Heavy Breathing” – [Siltbreeze]

humana   8/21/2013   12-inch, A Library

Mongrels live long, and if they are also constant, well then, you have a winning combination. The title of this release refers to the locked groove at the end of B4, which is kind of the way I sounded after I stopped dancing wildly to this album. I had my son laughing at how ridiculous I looked, but really, I can’t resist the opportunity to bop along clumsily and crazily to the fast-paced garage-punk rhythms produced by this foursome out of Melbourne. A1 and B1 are somewhat slower and more sinister sounding, but each side builds with progressive energy. There are vocals, but they are part of the mix. This is certainly tons of fun.
