Unknown Soldier – “Gone But Not Forgotten Ep ” – [Underground Resistance]

Two nice 6-minute slices of techno on UR, the dependable Detroit DJ/techno label. I’m not sure if “Hesitation” on Side A is the same version as on the Unknown Soldier 7″ that came out on UR previously. Raphael Merriweathers Jr is The Unknown Soldier, and his brand of beats isn’t over-the top hard techno, nor is it wimpy and forgettable. For me it’s just right- relentless in a good way, with cool surprises such as treated voices and (I think) theremin sounds popping up here and there. 6 minutes per side may seem generous, however the tracks are over much too quickly. Give this a spin!
