Kinski/Acid Mothers Te [coll] – [Sub Pop Records]
Max Level 5/28/2006 12-inch, A Library
An East/West summit meeting, with spacy psyche-rock the common ground. Side A, a new Kinski track, is a slab of churning, Hawkwind-by-way-of-Mogwai space rock, with some floaty ambience at the end. Side D is new material from Acid Mothers Temple, a 22-minute trip that starts with clean guitar strumming, gradually buries it under swirling noise, and climaxes with a large dose of Kawabata’s freakout guitar. Sides B and C are a couple of quieter jams, featuring members of both bands: B is a gentle, loop-based, guitar meditation, C has droning tamboura, ghostly vocals, and spooky effects.
