Guild of Funerary Violinists, The – “Art of Funerary Violin, The” – [Mississippi Records]

Cousin Mary   8/19/2013   12-inch, A Library

Solos except for 3 tracks that include bass drum (A-2, A-6, and B-9) that are even more ominous, these violin pieces are very well played. There is some question about whether the genre of funerary violin ever existed or whether these composers are fictitious. See http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6202644. However, these are beautiful compositions in the classical Renaissance vein that make the listener ponder mortality.
