Dj Female Convict Scorpion – “Impatience Los Altos Hills ” – [Self Release]
Thurston Hunger 4/13/2006 A Library, CD
Tweaking for that Scorpion venom, us FM feed freaks here at
KFJC are looking mighty forward to DJ FCS visiting our pit
for a live set 4/13/2006. In our impatience, we begged for a
little something extra and got sent this 4-track CDR. Josh
Pollock is the Scorpion rising, and the house he built is
all kitchen sink. This album starts with “Nuclear War”
and in the post-apocalyptic rumble, DJ FCS is not eclipsed
by Sun Ra. We take deep breaths, we are self helpless.
Deeper and deeper, six seven. Hip gnosis, blue roses.
Count to ten, and launch the Bernard Purdie clones?
Track two, “Bald Headed Women” on prison break, climb a
power tower of (Spiritualized?) drone. Jungle jump cut
to jazz fusion? Am I getting Jan Hammered? A low end
theremin gets draped across the booooogie. Pitch wheel
pimp slap! Double drums and morse code, perhaps a cry for
Ake Hodell? Next up, Prince’s “Housequake” moves with a
a mongoloid plod, for the extended dunce mix. Stacked atop
it: resonating crystal glasses and tons of other stuff,
it even gets a flute fanfare with trick tablas (one tabla
is built out of flubber it seems). Duck for the theremin!
It ends with a snug piece of Maiden-Deformed live on live
action, a tribute to the eternal song end? Or is there a
catch 22? This project approaches quit-your-day-job
brilliance. -Thurston Hunger
