Faun Fables – “Transit Rider, The ” – [Drag City]

Thurston Hunger   4/6/2006   A Library, CD

Sojourner truths? The rocking ride of the mother bus.
All aboard! The travelling circus led by Dawn and Nels
is coming to town! Vocal acrobatics with the greatest
of ease, and the easiness of grace. Face-paint smudges
that from the corner of your eye look maybe a little
bit frightening. Those eerie little melodies, memorable
maladies, with guitar chordlets that in larger portions
would be a poison perhaps? Or is it the laudnum? Guest
appearances by an array of wheezing, pleasing keys and
glockenspiel and autoharp. Third rail and third eye meet
often on this, w/ Dawn’s voice echoing down the tracks.
Peppered with field and tunnel recordings. Evidently
this is part of an evolving stage show, with your stop
up ahead soon. Start humming the tune your grandfather
knew, but your father forgot. With Faun Fables there is
something ancestral, something familiar. The slower
Dawn sings, the more we all love our mothers. And each
listen is like returning to your family’s dinner table
and finding out something new and amazing about your
relatives. Some say the world ends in fire, other say
castration…but with music this rich and intimately
crafted and assuredly strange, who cares? Enjoy the
ride of your dreams. -Thurston Hunger

(Great review, Thurston)
Dawn of Faun Fables has one of the most beautiful voices of all time!!! All of the band members are very creative and talented. The stage show is quite a trippy experience: dreamy and spooky, like Alice in Wonderland!
