Album Review
TD Skatchit & Company – “Ear of The Storm” – [Edgetone Records]
Weird sounds abound on this CD, a concept album whose first song is based on the sounds one imagines hearing in the “ear of the storm”, whether it be a tornado, hurricane, or thunderstorm. Tracks 2-14 constitute “After the Storm,” and all (including the first) feature skatchboxes, those amazing inventions of Tomm Nunn & David Michalak consisting of cardboard boxes and played with combs. A bevy of musical guests add their talents to this effort, including Kyle Bruckman, Rent Romus, Phillip Greenlief, Thollem McDonas, Polly Moller, Gino Robair, and many more. Be sure to check out the animal sounds on ‘Caline Fenine” (11), “The Last Rhino” (12), and the happening percussiveness of “Funkin’ Skatch” (8).
