Sabbath Assembly – “Ye Are Gods” – [Svart Records]
humana 4/19/2013 12-inch, A Library
What do Jehovah, Lucifer, Satan, and Christ have in common? It turns out that the theology of the Process Church of the Final Judgment is the bond uniting them, and even though the Apocalyptic religion existed in the late 60s and early 70s, the Sabbath Assembly is the band that interprets its message for modern times. Complete with an insert like a missalette, this album offers an experience much like a mass (okay, a folk-rock mass). The philosophy behind it all is somewhat comforting, but the ritualizing of it of course scares the heck out of me. So it’s best to just take in the pleasant flow of the music itself and ignore the words. At least for me.
