Spectral Park – “S/t” – [Mexican Summer]

humana   4/2/2013   12-inch, A Library

#6 pegged this right when he called it “happy hazy muddly glaze pop”! Funny thing, though, the lyrics are mostly about love gone bad and disillusionment, but you’d never know it from the up-tempo nature of these tracks. UK’s Luke Donovan salvaged records from the garbage, layered his lyrics and live instruments over carefully chosen samples, and this album is the result. It’s a frenetic testimony that, out of the ashes, the phoenix can rise. “Let me crush my hands in your mangled heart.” (A4) Be sure to check out lyrics like these printed on the insert, and enjoy this twisted page from time brought to you specially through the artistic sensibilities of Spectral Park.
