Lowdown, the – “Y Is a Crooked Letter ” – [Zum Media]

Max Level   2/1/2006   A Library, CD

Santa Cruz band, hyperactive, noisy, distorted, and intense. Pounding keyboards, overloaded drums, desperate vocals, bleating horns, a 2-string guitar, and amplified guitar tuners (!) are in the mix. I love the completely demented Track 11, just an amazing piece. #12 is less noisy than the others, it can possibly be described as a tonescape for percussion and vocal. All of this material was produced cheaply on a 4-track cassette machine. In my opinion, an important component of the music would be missing if the recorded sound was any less awful than it is. But it isn’t, so it’s not, so there you go.
