Album Review
Colin L. Orchestra – “COL” – [Northern Spy]
humana 2/16/2013 A Library, CD
This is a delightful grab bag of tunes ranging from the folksy (1, 4) to bluesy (2) to noisy (7) to moans and breathing exercises that sound like monkeys in a Costa Rican forest (10) to electronics (11) to smooth ballad (2) to lovely guitar minimalism (9) to fast-paced, train-beat country (5, 12) to amazing psyche jams that include elements of orchestra and Zappa-esque rock opera (6). I hate the expression “It’s all good,” but here it applies. This is the third installation in what musician Colin Langenus calls a “psychedelic yacht rock comfortable soul jam trilogy.” It should float many a boat.
