Sujo – “Repent” – [Inam Records]

humana   2/8/2013   A Library, CD

The less I know about someone personally, the more authentic my reviews are. Sujo (aka Ryan Huber) has an insert in this CD in which he specifically thanks KFJC. He runs the Inam label, and also creates as Olekranon. “Repent” contains just the right mix of metal and ambient for me (I learned that this is called “metalgaze”–no wonder I enjoy it). So as the metallic noise of 1 started surrounding me, I thought, “Hey, this isn’t bad.” I compare 2 to the sounds of a carwash, with a lull in the middle after which the whirring brushes descend on the car again. 5 is driving, just as repentance should be. Alternately ambient and jarringly loud, this CD was just the thing for turning up loud in my car to shock Los Altos shoppers as I drove to work.
