New Fumes – “Bump and Assassination” – [Good Records]
mickeyslim 9/5/2012 A Library, CD
New Fumes is the solo project of guitarist Daniel Huffman of improv group Ghostcar, who was also a touring guitarist for Polyphonic Spree and collaborator with the Flaming Lips. He creates these textural soundscapes, but with fun electronic rock jams over easy pop beats, warbled effects, bird chirps, and synth solos.
Sometimes chaotic, sometimes mellow, scritchy scratchy or dazed, the songs reflect a kind of broken serenity. Twisted out of ecstatic nirvana into a surreal space pop world of quasi-enlightenment, each song has it’s own theme that takes you on a trippy ride. Huffman handpoured the colored vinyl himself, showing you how much personality is in each pressing. Rock this shit… only 500 copies, yo.

Thank you for the kind review!
Just wanted to be clear that I was Once a touring guitarist for the Spree in 2007, but not the current guitarist. Would not want to be confused with my good friend Corey Helms. Though Good records label is Poly Spree owned and operated.
I like your descriptions of the music!
Peace,
Daniel Huffman
