Cauchemar – “La Vierge Noire” – [Nuclear War Now! Product]

2010 debut EP from Quebecoises Classic-Heavy-Metallers. The name means ‘Nightmare.’ The insert contains a note that roughly translates as “Cauchemar thank Black Sabbath for discovering the way,” so you have a pretty good idea what this will sound like: 70s hard rock with a hint of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Clean female vocals deliver lyrics in French Canadian over mostly midtempo-thrash/80s-doom paced riffs. Judas Priest, Venom, Witchfinder General, mid-70s Sabbath. Oddly reminiscent of Sacrilege at some points despite being in a totally different style. Would have lived up to the band’s name in 1983; no longer does. I have no idea what to think about this– won’t you check it out?
