Alewives, The – “Ghost Guitars/Moment of Truth” – [Lulu Records]

The Alewives were a surf band that was well known on the local scene in the Milwaukee area. I believe that this 1995 7-inch was their only recording. Ghost Guitars has a few vocals and is a nice example of horror surf. Their take on the surf standard Moment of Truth has a unique sound. Two members of the band are now deceased – too bad for many reasons – it would have been great to hear more of this lo-fi, rockin’ sound.

Alewives are fish that wash up dead on the shores of the great lakes and cause a big stench problem. I think these guys had a sense of humor.
