Wildbirds & Peacedrums – “Retina” – [Leaf Label Ltd]

There are some plusses to this release. Hildur Godnadottir arranged the Schola Cantorum Reykjavik Chamber Choir, and Mariam Wallentin’s vocals are lovely. Andreas Werliin’s percussion on B2 lifts the album out of the mire of lugubriousness that characterizes the majority of tracks. This husband and wife team attempt to make beautiful music together, but the result falls short somehow.
