Indian Summer – “Science 1994″ – [Futurerecordings]Indian summer is a quasi-hardcore band from Oakland that was active in ’93 and ’94. Pair of twins Adam and Seth Nanaa play guitar and bass respectively, and they both contribute vocals. Couldn’t find what Eyad Keilah and Marc Bianchi play, but they’re both in there and I’m sure one plays drums! Bianchi started another project after Indian Summer called Her Space Holiday, which we have in our library. I absolutely love this music! Tracks 1,4 and 6 all start with a sample of a Bessie Smith track, and gradually segue into their own song. Mellow and meditative at first, with aggressively spoken words over melodic (slide?) guitar. Halfway through, they turn up the distortion with feedback and heavy driving rhythms, oh yeah, and more of a guttural singing/yelling. First track samples Smith’s “Long Old Road” and 4 and 6 sample “See If I’ll Care.” 1-3 were their last recorded songs, 4-6 was from their S/T 7″ single, number 6 being recorded with the vocalist facing a wall with his back to the mic. “Orchard” was the first song they did as Indian Summer recorded on 8 track with final cassette master on overdubbed REO Speedwagon cassette. “Sugar Pill” was recorded drinking in a bedroom in Santa Barbara, and the last track was recorded for a Food Not Bombs collection. Awesome blend of sounds, check it out! Comment on this review |
