Ohno, Matsuo – “I Saw The Outer Limits” – [Em Records]

Matsuo has been around since the 60s, after becoming a freelance sound effects professional in 1953. His early big hit was creating the sounds for the Astro Boy cartoon of the 1960s. 1957 documentary Ikebana, 1964′s anime series Submarine Cassiopeia, and 1977 sci fi classic The War In Space are just a few more of his effects credits. This is a reissue of his 1978 solo release, I Saw The Outer Limits. Definite modular, synth and analog space sounds here. Crystallized comets and jet-setting stars. Empty space winds, and ice cold planets. Cosmic mind trips. Mellow and accessible, moog approved. All tracks between 3-6 minutes, just enough time to hyper-drive through the galaxy.
The mini 3″ CD is “Play On Animals”, which is exactly that. Animal noises recorded and looped, pitched and tossed around. Recorded in 1970 for a Worlds Fair souvenir CD! It was Japan’s first time hosting.
