Gouzy, Eglantine – “Boamaster” – [Osaka]This 2006 album feels so tiny and cute, like some kind of
nano-pet that fits in the palm of your hand and
no one else can see. And it speaks French, so how
adorable is that? You can almost hear li’l Eglantine
switch costumes on each track, spangled cowboy
outfit (#3), 60′s sci-fi unitard(#6), sad circus
clown(#13) and her quasi-hip-hop foray (#1) feels
like a cultural exchange student bustin’ at the
8th grade talent show. ??Her accent will connote
other Wjork, but she is her own nano-pet, hear her
roar (albeit quietly, neotenically, and weirdly
in a polite manner). If this album had cheeks,
you know you would pinch them. Instead it’s got
a rainbow collection of micro-electronics, very
tinkly keyboards, wind-up drum and bass (#13)
It’s longest track is called “Pygmy” (instro
closer). I mean, come on. My fave was “Zone A”
which recalled Niobe!
