Winter Family – “Red Sugar” – [Sub Rosa]

Listening to this CD is nothing less than a challenging, albeit rewarding, experience. As their name suggests, Winter Family hunkers down for a chilly spell, filling their lives with poetry set to a fascination of field sounds, harmoniums, and drones, among many other things. It is like listening to a documentary. Ruth Rosenthal and Xavier Klaine bring together the earthiest of Jerusalem and Paris. Be sure to check out the words tucked in the CD sleeve, and enjoy 6, which is my favorite.
