Coathangers, The – “Larceny & Old Lace” – [Suicide Squeeze]

This girl band out of Atlanta is pretty great! They have a reputation for starting out as gutsy girls who didn’t know how to play their instruments but who persevered until they achieved what you hear on this CD, which is catchy guitar work, percussion, keys, and engaging lyrics (though some are verboten so watch out). I enjoyed everything on here (except for 4, but that’s just me). 11 is the only slow, sad one. All the rest will get you dancing. The different voices, varying from the sexy-sweet baby voice on 8 to the grittier (think Kim Carnes) wisdom of 9 to the yelling of 10 add a refreshing variety.
