Melchior, Dan – “Assemblage Blues” – [Siltbreeze]

Dan Melchior is a singer/songwriter/guitarist from England who now lives in the United States in Durham, North Carolina. This album features frequently unintelligible muffled vocals, electronic and field noises, and overall intentional distortion. Some tracks are quite upbeat, others are more contemplative. The lyrics that I could make out are often very dark. It’s original, compelling, and frequently beautiful.

I liked this a lot; I’ve heard that his earlier work is quite different but I now want to check it out.

PGM: Vocals on all tracks except side 1, track 3 and side 2, track 2. Side 1, track 6 beings with narrated vocals, very dreary subject matter – then ends with about 1 minute of odd clattering noise.
