KFJC Music Reviews
Ron Anderson is a guitarist, but chose to play bass on this recording where he wanted to feature Keith Abrams’ percussion.
Thanks for Ron Anderson for his correction concerning his composition methods as noted in his comment below.
Instrumentation includes brass, reeds, piano, guitar and strings that integrate into a whole very well. The sound is lively, fun, goofy, sometimes jazzy, hard to pin down.
Fans of Frank Zappa might like this..
That is not my method of composition…the method was to present the whole composition to the musicians during rehearsal by playing it for them on guitar, and then make some changes if I or we would hear something exciting to make a better arrangement. I think most rock bands work this way. Sometimes I have written notion for the musicians.
thanks for the review and the airplay.
- Ron PS this really is the third CD by PAK or Ron Anderson’s PAK
Ron, apologies for the incorrect information on my initial review. I did not confirm something I read on a blog. I think our listeners will really enjoy your work.
Hey…No apologies are necessary,,,sorry…I wrote that reply very quickly yesterday as I was getting ready to go to sound check with Elliott Sharp, I was late.
After thinking about I understand the confusion… on two solo CDs (Anything is Possible and PAK small r 1/2 Inch) I did use a method of recording very short parts in a studio with various musicians and then later editing the parts together on 1/2 inch analog tape. But the new CD was done is a more traditional way. (see above)
I’m very happy that you could the time to listen and write about the new CD and give it air play. A Huge Massive Thank You! Hope to see at a concert when we play the West Coast. bye, Ron
Thanks to you, Ron – it really adds a lots to these reviews when the artist adds some background.
