Sounds of Liberation – “Sounds of Liberation” – [Porter Records]

Sound of Liberation was a group of great musicians from Philadelphia: Byard Lancaster on sax, Khan Jamal on vibes, Billy Mills on Bass, Rashid Salim on conga, Omar Hill on percussion, Dwight James on drums, and female (yippee!) jazz guitarist Monnette Sudler. Very energetic, frequently groovy (especially short tracks 3 and 6) – this 1972 session gives us outstanding sounds and nudges us to look for more work from these artists. Previously rare and hard to find, it’s wonderful that this 2010 release is now available!
