Benadon, Fernando – “Intuitivo” – [Innova/American Composers]

First the seven musicians improvised freely with no instructions while Benadon recorded them. Then he cut and mixed their work together with very lovely results. Until I read the liner notes, I had no idea that this process had been used ??? it sounds like fine compositions, probably somewhat improvised. Occasionally the drum or bass give it a jazzy riff, but in general it is more reminiscent of minimalist composers like Steve Reich.

Fernando Benadon is a native of Buenos Aires who has studied jazz at Berklee and composition at UC-Berkeley.
