Masahiko Sato & Soundbreakers – “Amalgamation” – [Drone Syndicate]

Two long tracks from Masahiko Satoh & Soundbreakers, originally released in 1971. Free form jazz excursions!
The first starts out with almost an announcement type horn, then gets into a Can like drum & bass guitar trance, while a man talks in a foreign language. Sounds like a TV news report (I think I hear bombs). Mournful horns and hammering typewriters take in the mix. Don’t forget the 60s fuzzy guitar too. Half way through it blasts into a bitchin’ aggressive bass & organ freakout! I guess the title serves it well (amalgamation has various meanings of combining things together). This definitely makes me want to put on my Twiggy mini dress & do the mashed potato!
The second piece is way more on the improv, free side. Whining clairnets and rolling snare drums. Sizzling cymbals and beat up bongos. Fluttery flutes & random chants fill the breeze.
