Chang, Hsia-jung – “Inside The Piano – 21st Century Improvisations” – [Mandala Studio]

Taiwan native Hsia-Jung (pronounced Sha-Zone, per artist) Chang trained at the University of Houston and Manhattan School of Music and now resides in New York. She has recorded most of Chopin???s solo piano work and is the daughter of singer-guitarist Ho Lan.

After her sister set up her piano for recording, Hsia-Jung spent the day doing improvisation — a lot of it on the inside of the piano. Inspirations include Chopin, Chinese pieces and traditional Chinese instruments. Very lovely and frequently humorous. I especially enjoyed ???Chopin Bug??? which contrasts great music and mundane annoyances.
