Greg Scott???s (1965-2003) solo project is Hydra following his succinct yet potent contributions with Final Solution (1992-1996).?? This release was originally only a limited run of 50 numbered cassettes.?? Scott was involved in the New York ???noise scene.????? His style is identified as Power Electronics a subgenre beneath the umbrella noise genre; a style void of rhythm yet caustic & violent in its shrieked lyrical content & reliant on blown out distortions, deafening feedback & shrill frequencies.?? As Hydra, Scott uses distorted electronics & visceral angry screams to vent his inner anxieties & frustrations.?? These sounds are aggressively atonal & invincibly powerful.?? Some cuts loom maliciously & eerily.?? Others are so shrill & white noisy you???ll probably think you have acute tinnitus.?? One cut employs machine gun samples & doom laden decrees about God giving the gift of the gun.?? It???s as formidable as a Hydra yet pretty forlorn & depressed at times.?? I suspect the suicide prevention hotline on the CD booklet would indicate Scott claimed his own life.?? He leaves this Power behind as a reminder of his creative talent & imaginative influence.????
