Dolphy, Eric – “Out There ” – [Prestige Records Inc.]

Dolphy???s second album as a leader (1960). Like much of his work, it???s not instantly accessible but gives great rewards to those who stick with it. Some contemplative and slow tracks that are good for quiet moods: 2,4,6,7.

ED plays on his amazing range of instruments ??? alto sax on 1&7, bass clarinet on 2&3, b-flat clarinet on 4, flute on 5&6. Roy Haynes on drums and George Duvivier on bass are terrific. I found my ear most attracted to Ron Carter???s cello.
