Bang, Billy Quintet – “Above & Beyond: Live In Grand Rapids ” – [Justin Time Records]

Challenging listen and original sound, but still accessible. One of Frank Lowe???s last concerts (playing sax with one lung!) and his last wish was to have this concert recording released. Great stretched out solos. A stunner!

Track 1 ??? cool bowed bass solo at ~13:00.
Track 2 ??? Lowe on tenor, his favorite of his compositions.
Track 3 ??? Starts with long piano solo (reminiscent of 20th century classical composers), then violin and sax take a turn over drum continuo. Ends with very quiet percussion solo.
Track 4 ??? Mostly straight ahead but insane violin solo at end.

Extraordinary, I especially like tracks 1 and 3.
